Three things stand out to me about Sharmila: she knows what she's doing, she is willing to fight for the best for her patient, and she is deeply compassionate. Her unwavering support has been a pillar for me, and I'm grateful to know her.

Our Studio, Our Safe Space

  • What if I don’t like my therapist?
You should tell your therapist what you dislike about them and it is healthy to work through the differences. Very often the therapeutic relationship is a microcosm of what happens in the external world. At Your Zindagi we believe in equality in the therapeutic relationship and we are open to your feedback and adjusting our approach to your needs. If you are still dissatisfied with us we will recommend other therapists who you may contact.
  • Can I stop taking my medication if I take therapy?
Your medication is decided by your medical practitioner, normally a psychiatrist. Medication should ideally be weaned off gradually under supervision and is done when there is progress. We work closely with your doctor for optimal results.
  • Does seeking therapy mean I have a mental disorder?
There may be circumstances in life which put a high pressure on our mental, emotional, physical and relationship resources. This causes distress and one needs to build one’s resilience to bounce back to one’s normal self. This is not a disorder but if one cannot cope effectively it may eventually lead to one.
  • Can a minor meet a therapist independently?
A minor needs to be accompanied by a family member or guardian during therapy sessions. The therapist may speak alone to the minor with guardian/family consent.
  • Why do I have to pay my fees upfront for a booking?
This is to ensure the therapist is prepared for your session, does not keep you waiting and your session is confidential. Also, therapy dedicates time and is not a rushed process.
  • Can I walk in for an appointment?
You may walk into the clinic and take an appointment with the assistant. If the therapist is free she will meet you. To maintain client confidentiality we would prefer that you take an appointment.
  • Do you prescribe medication?
We help you with psychotherapy. Medication is prescribed by a psychiatrist or other medical doctor.
  • How do I decide if I need therapy?
If you feel the need for assistance to alleviate some mental distress and you feel that speaking to a non judgemental, confidential person who is an expert at such matters would help.
  • Will everything I say remain confidential?
Absolutely.Confidentiality is part of the code of ethics for therapists and can only be breached by a court order or if there is a threat of life to someone.
  • Can my therapist solve my problem?
Therapy is seldom directive and your therapist should not be telling you how to solve a problem. One works through the issues in hand to gain insight into them. We then use therapy to make modifications in thoughts, actions, behaviour and our physiology to alleviate our problem.
  • Do you offer online therapy sessions?
Yes, if you find it difficult to visit us. However a face to face initial few sessions helps us to establish a stronger therapeutic relationship. The therapist also notices non verbal cues to understand you which may not always be visible in an offline session. When you visit our space you will feel the warm, serenity and safety of the environment which makes you relax and make therapy more effective. Some therapeutic tools and tests require an offline presence.
